Abstract

A fair comparison of a multi-mode antenna array with a dipole array in terms of beamforming is presented in this paper. The comparison is based on the assumption of same array aperture and thus a different number of array elements. It is shown that this multi-mode array is able to outperform the dipole array for all scan angles. The reasons for this advantage are explored and discussed.
