Abstract

This paper presents a modulator concept for a semipassive RFID transponder working at 24 GHz that can be integrated into a metallic work piece. The modulator is based on a single switching element and it is positioned at the center of the transponder antenna which is based on a circular waveguide and a transition that converts the waveguide mode into a planar mode. Communication between the transponder and the reader unit is realized as an ASK modulation. The performance of the transponder is evaluated, comparing the measured and the simulated differential radar cross sections.
